TYPOGRAPHY QUOTE POSTERS

assignment

To use adobe illustrator to “illustrate” two quotes using only typographic and decorative character elements. Each needs to be formatted to an 11×17 portrait format, designed using Illustrator. Typography and decorative elements within the compositions can only be used. When pairing and combining fonts, make sure to pay attention not only to the emotion they may convey, but make sure that aesthetically and stylistically they go with one another. Pay attention to the readability and legibility when creating the designs.

know-how

Adobe Illustrator

approach

I first approached this project by first gathering inspiration, in this case the quotes. After looking at many examples of illustrative quotes I started to work on the layout. Along with creating a layout I looked for fonts that felt right with the illustrative idea I was going for. For example I created a lightbulb on the “i” in “light.”

Keeping in mind the deadline, I had to design based on my own capabilities. The target audience was young adults who may not have the best drawing skills, I wanted to show them that you did not need to know how to draw all fancy. You can still illustrate something as plain as a quote with simple typographic and decorative elements.
