THE PSYCHOLOGY OF COLOR ACCORDION BOOK

assignment

Design and handcraft both an accordion-style booklet and a box to hold it. Must have unique materials/construction, creative cover design, be entirely hand-crafted and non-digital design and construction, mixed media, typography, and the elements and principles of design.

plan

Representing the psychology behind color in a hand-crafted accordion book.

When given the challenge of creating an accordion booklet I chose to do mine on the psychology of color. Featured in the booklet are the colors red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and pink.

approach

I first approached this project by first looking for inspiration and creating a mood board. From previous projects I knew I wanted to make use of my college skills in this project. After finding inspiration I started to draw sketches of the pages with different layouts. I spent hours putting each piece of material onto the piece of cardstock and trimming it with an xacto knife to make it look how I wanted. No part of the collage was randomly placed.

The target audience for this project is anyone who is interested in learning about the psychology behind color and what it means. Although the style points to a more modern and young audience, anyone who wants to learn is welcomed to be a part of the audience too.

results

The Psychology of Color accordion booklet was designed and created as a physical product (as pictured above with individual pages below).
