Acropolis' Museum ΚΗ / 28 | 'IkɔsI ɔ'ktɔ series

The Acropolis Museum is launching a new collective series of products for its gift shop. This series, named ΚΗ / 28 | 'IkɔsI ɔ'ktɔ (twenty eight), is composed of twenty eight products, put in four categories and met in seven items to each one of them. The purpose of the launching is to reveal not only the exhibits of the Museum, but even more the greek genre and the most fascinating part of the Museum-containing Caryatides-the Parthenon sculptural decoration revealing the shine of Golden Era of Pericles, while placing the matter of the repatriation of the marbles.
In an effort to succeed in what has been referred, the idea is focused on the Parthenon frieze, which depicts in a special and the most imaginative way the Panathenian procession. The packages are illustrated in Jacques Carrey’s drawings, the artist’s who depicted the Parthenon frieze during his visit to the monument, having given us the chance to know the appearance of the frieze’s parts which were destroyed by Morosini’s explosion, in 1687. The distinctive elements of the illustration of the packages, which prove that there is no chance of “raw” copy of Carrey’s drawings, are the sense of texture that has been given in the background of figures by dotting, but even more, are the coloured figures and the embossed parts of the figures on the frieze, showing the points that have been saved from the destructions, existing in the British Museum, the Louvre and the Acropolis Museum. What is more, the way that packages are “read” can be characterized as rare; the procession, beginning from the west side, is divided in the north and south ones-where the visitor can admire the horse games taking place in frames of Panathenian- which go in parallel way and snap by meeting each other at the east part of the frieze, the most intriguing point, the delivery of peplos destined to goddess Athena.
Finally, as far as the content of the packages is concerned, the seven products of each category have to do with the Athenians’ habits through the centuries in an effort not only to reveal the rest of the exhibits, the “hidden” ones in some way, compared to the Parthenon hall exhibits, but also to let the audience know about the Athenians’ habits. More specifically, all these, the daily habits, the entertaining, the social and the religious ones are getting know through the items of the packages.
