Kiln Key

For this project, we had the opportunity to work with a group and invent a product controlled through an app. Since everyone in the group shared a passion for ceramics, we came up with the KilnKey. This is a monitoring device that is attached to a ceramic kiln to gauge and control it through an app. Product features include temperature control, emergency shut-off, timers, notifications, inventory tracker, calendar, and settings. To create a design that captured the key and ceramic concept, we pulled inspiration from the shape of keys and colors from terracotta and jewel glazes. We also incorporated the hexagon shape of the kiln into our pattern. Ultimately, we wanted to give the user an engaging, simple, exciting experience with this unique product.
