#86 Royal Selangor

Country: Malaysia

Industry: Pewter, gifts

About: In 1885, a young pewtersmith named Yong Koon arrived in Malaya from the Chinese port of Shantou and opened a little shop called Ngeok Foh (Jade Peace) where he handcrafted pewter objects mainly for ceremonial use, such as joss stick holders, incense burners and candle holders for altars of Chinese homes and temples. The pewter objects sold by Yong Koon were polished with "stone leaf", a wild tropical leaf of a fine, abrasive nature.

Words: heritage, shiny; malleable

Strategy: Refreshing the typeface with elegant curves, while adding some disturbance to convey the malleability of the material (pewter). A decorative frame around the logomark is used to reinforce the heritage of the brand and the beauty of its final products. The colors were also updated to the shiny silver gradient of pewter.
