Which version of CCleaner is malicious?
In September 2017, it was discovered that the 32-bit version of CCleaner, a popular system cleaning tool developed by Piriform (now owned by Avast), had been
compromised by hackers. The compromised version of CCleaner (version 5.33.6162) contained malware that could potentially allow attackers to take control of
affected computers.
It's important to note that only the 32-bit version of CCleaner was affected by this issue, and the 64-bit version was not compromised. Additionally, the affected
version of CCleaner was only available for download from the official CCleaner website between August 15, 2017 and September 12, 2017.
Piriform quickly released a patched version of CCleaner (version 5.34) that addressed the issue, and users were advised to update to the latest version of the software
as soon as possible. Since then, there have been no reports of malicious versions of CCleaner. However, as with any software, it's always a good idea to keep it up-
to-date with the latest security patches and to download it only from trusted sources.
