Skytra an Airbus Company Case Study

OVERVIEW

AIRBUS DREAM

It doesn’t happen everyday that someone offers you to become a part of the core team that will develop Airbus startup. Skytra is a wholly/completely-owned subsidiary of Airbus, established in London to support the industry with new risk management solutions and decision making tools. The air travel industry is exposed to geopolitical events, economic shocks, and pandemics causing unpredictable revenues and creating cash flow and profit margin challenges.

Skytra provides a suite of risk management solutions to its partners to address pricing, volumes, and revenue risks in the air travel industry.

Skytra processed over 2 petabytes of air travel data to develop data products for risk management solutions and easing decision making.

PROBLEM

A PLACE UNDER THE SUN

When I joined Skytra, they didn't have a brand identity, website, nor promotional videos . We needed to create everything from scratch and follow its impact on the company development, analyse website analytics, see users and market reaction.

Skytra was launched officially in January 2020 and three months later we had a pandemic arriving.

That was something no one expected, and it was a hard time for many startups.

KICK OFF

WHERE SHOULD I START?

It wasn't easy to deep dive into aspecific area of the air travel industry, so I spent my time learning about it, reading, and chatting with team members. I needed to understand all of it to create our ideal buyer and adapt design.

PROCESS

BRANDBOOK

I created a brandbook with Ema. We spent months iterating visuals and text.

SOCIAL MEDIA

Back in 2020, we were new to the market, and wanted to draw attention. We crafted every social media post, so it stands out on LinkedIn and Twitter in sea of similiar images.

WEBSITE

We wanted to know exactly who will be visiting the website and tailor it specially for them. Our research helped us to see that those would be mostly C-level people from companies. We knew that they were seniors and that they expected something from us - clarity and informativeness. We didn't have many competitors, but we wanted to see what the best practice was by checking the best companies in the financial industry, such as hedge and investment funds, banks, and similar.

VIDEOS

When the brief explainer video arrived, I knew I wanted to do more. Skytra wanted a simple explainer, created by either combining stock videos or simple 2D animation. My idea was to create a complex 3D video that would make everything clear to clients. There were two reasons - they would appreciate the effort and we would stand out from other companies on events and pitches. And it was like that. We started creating some storyboards - static images were Photoshop manipulations so we could have an idea for every shot in the video. Ema, Djordje, and I worked together for about a month - and this was the result.

After amazing reactions, Skytra wanted to create a series of these videos, for almost every product. Some of them were under NDA, but I could share images from others.

Those videos directly impacted landing and deals with huge clients!

RESULTS

RESULTS

Landed some big clients and big deals

The client said us that custom product videos directly impacted deals with some big names in the aviation industry.

Grabbed attention on social media

Our social media posts definitely helped us in raising brand awareness on LinkedIn and Twitter. I cannot share numbers from marketing case studies, but trust me - they are big.

Everyone was amazed by the videos

Videos were shown at various events and client pitches. Many said that they haven't seen anything like this in the industry.

Attendance to conferences grabbed the attention

For every conference, we have created 3D booth and applied visuals so we can see how it will look in real, before sending it to print. All material shown at conferences, from flyers, via booth design to videos was noticed.

LESSONS LEARNER

OVERCOMING IS ALWAYS POSSIBLE

You can work fast, but still, produce quallity

Because I was only a designer, I needed to work like an octopus some days - producing social media material, print material, UI/UX, and working on videos with a crazy short deadline. There were cases when I had 1 hour for some tasks.

There is no task or industry you cant overcome

It happens that in startups you get a task for something you’ve never worked on before. Don’t panic. Some Google and YouTube and you have it!
