The Design Challenge

Due to the global pandemic in early 2020, learning had to be immediately shifted from physical to online, exposing the lack of suitable online learning environments, online learning tools, and suitable platforms for educators to track student progress and create viable teaching content.

How might we design a suitable online education platform that fosters motivation, engagement, interactivity, community, and pedagogical monitoring for higher-level educators?

What is the real problem?

• Most e-learning environment systems do not offer a suitable platform and tools for teachers to teach their students appropriately and by applying the concepts of e-learning. 

• A sense of isolation and disconnection between educators and students leads to a lack of motivation and interest for the student to learn, coupled with poor and ineffective content delivery. 

Who is this solution for?

A mixed-methods data-gathering approach used a questionnaire to elicit information about the devised research question.

The data from the responses were sorted, analysed, and further used in developing User Personas to understand the targeted audience and fully comprehend the system’s requirements.

• Adaptive learning mechanisms to deliver appropriate content and feedback to students.

• Features to foster a sense of community between educators and students.

• A learner analytics dashboard to assess and measure these features to combat engagement issues and increase motivation through data-driven content design. 

• A creator toolkit to assist educators in creating dynamic, relevant and well-designed content to drive engagement between students and content.
