Homemade food ordering app - Case Study
Overview
Cook-On empowers homemakers and home chefs to earn passive income by creating a virtual kitchen to sell homemade, nutritious food to customers who are looking for authentic, traditional home-cooked meals, especially during the COVID-19 crisis.
This was a 3 week project that I worked on at Alfheimr Tech, Interdisciplinary Design and Software Agency.
The team consisted of one product designer, one UI designer, and 2 engineers to bring the project to fruition.
Research
We conducted extensive stakeholder interviews and competitive analysis. We discovered that - a lot of homemakers and home-chefs use Whatsapp Catalog to list their food items and share their business numbers to neighbouring households. Homemakers need a business license to list their items on Instagram shop to attract a wider audience.
Challenge
About 50kg of food gets wasted per person every year from Indian household.
Homemakers don’t have a medium to sell and promote their home-cooked food.
People who are staying in hostels / guest houses don’t have access to home-cooked food at an affordable pricing.
Final design
Simple, clean, and seamless onboarding: The onboarding process for chefs and home-makers highlighted the benefits of using the app, explained the core features, and set clear expectations for setting up virtual kitchens.
Nutritious and healthy food for millenials at their fingertips: Every food item that is displayed on end-user's app is curated by expert home chefs.
Sleek profile for chefs to highlight their best works: Only 4 step process for home chefs to create account, setup virtual kitchen, and uploading brag-worthy pictures fo their kitchen and food. This also ensured that only trusted and verified home chefs could join the app.
