UX Design for Non-Emergency Medical Transportation Software

Overview:

Tevvo LLC specializes in developing innovative software solutions for the non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) industry. As a UX Designer, my role was to lead the user experience design for a comprehensive platform that facilitates the scheduling, management, and optimization of transportation services for patients with non-emergency medical needs. The goal was to create a seamless, user-friendly interface that caters to various stakeholders, including transportation providers, healthcare coordinators, and patients.

Project Goals:

  • Enhance User Experience: Develop an intuitive interface that simplifies the booking and management of NEMT services for users with varying levels of technical proficiency.

  • Increase Efficiency: Design features that streamline the coordination between transportation providers and healthcare facilities, reducing the time and effort required to schedule and manage rides.

  • Ensure HIPAA Compliance: Implement design practices that safeguard patient information, ensuring all aspects of the platform adhere to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.

  • Improve Communication: Integrate real-time communication tools to facilitate better coordination between patients, drivers, and healthcare providers.

My Role:

As the UX Designer, I was responsible for the end-to-end design process, including user research, wireframing, prototyping, user testing, and final UI design. I collaborated closely with product managers, developers, and stakeholders to ensure the design aligned with the business objectives and user needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. User Research: Conducted interviews and surveys with key stakeholders, including transportation providers, healthcare coordinators, and patients, to gather insights into their pain points, needs, and preferences.

  2. Wireframing & Prototyping: Developed low and high-fidelity wireframes and interactive prototypes to visualize and test design concepts. Tools like Figma and Adobe XD were used to iterate on designs based on feedback.

  3. User Testing: Organized usability testing sessions with real users to validate design choices and gather actionable feedback. Iterated on designs based on test results to enhance usability.

  4. UI Design: Created a clean, modern UI that aligns with Tevvo LLC's brand identity. Focused on ensuring that the design is both visually appealing and functionally efficient.

  5. Collaboration: Worked closely with developers during the implementation phase to ensure the final product matched the design specifications and provided a seamless user experience.

HIPAA Compliance:

  • Data Privacy: Integrated design elements that protect patient information, including secure login, encrypted data transmission, and controlled access to sensitive information.

  • User Permissions: Designed user role management features that restrict access to patient data based on the user's role, ensuring that only authorized personnel can view or modify sensitive information.

  • Audit Trails: Designed audit trail functionality that logs all interactions with patient data, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and facilitating easier auditing processes.

  • Security Awareness: Worked closely with the development team to ensure the platform’s design adheres to best practices in data security, including regular updates to address new threats and vulnerabilities.

Outcomes:

  • Improved Usability: The redesigned platform saw a significant increase in user satisfaction scores, with a 30% reduction in time required to schedule a ride.

  • Higher Adoption Rates: The intuitive design led to a 25% increase in platform adoption among healthcare coordinators and transportation providers.
