LCR - Not All Those Who Wander...
Case Study - Please let me know what you think!
This design has been made for a local Alberta Ranch. They are hoping to get into selling meat goats in the future, but currently, it is raw land.
They wanted the logo on the side of their trucks and embroidered on jackets/hats. The raw land that is being built has a coulee and creek that run through, hidden by the pine trees.
I was hired to create the logo to represent their land. There were no conventional constraints, other than the family being extremely opinionated and knowing what they did not like.
The final design kept a rustic feeling with a modern touch.
The family had a brainstorming session so I could see what they were envisioning. They sketched out ideas, talked about things they liked, and did not like. I then took those sketches and developed them into computerized files. They came up with a shotgun shell design and a design that showcased the coulee part of their land.
I took my time through Dribbble and looked up different logos related to agriculture and ranch styles. I wanted to see how others modernized an agriculture/western logo. (Thank you, designers). After my research I decided that I wanted to play with the shape of the logo, pushing the family our of their boundaries.
After settling on the tombstone shape, I needed to decide how to fill the center section. I played around with the letters LCR (as that is how the family quickly writes the ranch name out). It just would not fit the way I or the family liked it.
The family always went back to how the land looks, and it really is beautiful where they are. So I tried incorporating the horizon line into the middle. Which just seems to suit the center area better.
Then played with the colour pallet. Resting on a rustic colour pallet that had the 'rust' colour in it.
The final logo has the tombstone style, with the horizon in the middle, in the rustic colour pallet. Creating a logo that the family was extremely happy with.
