Astrobiology - AI Insect Life Exploration

It's estimated that insects originated on Earth about 480 million years ago and became abundant around 325 million years ago based on fossil records. Insects have survived major climate changes and thrived.

One hypothesis suggests that wings, which are a distinct trait of the order Hymenoptera, may have evolved from gills as a result of extreme radiation during the Carboniferous period.

The evolution of insects on Earth is also closely related to the evolution of flowering plants due to their role as pollinators. Although most feed on pollen, a number of species have adapted to a carnivorous diet.

Some bacteria, plants and even hardy micro-animals called tardigrades are capable of surviving in space and the highly adaptable nature and resiliency to radiation that insects have exhibited has led some scientists to propose that insects may have originated on other planets and unintentionally traveled here as part of a stream of space dust to populate Earth.
