Conscious- Winter 2021

The idea for this project stemmed from online shopping and coming across various retailers that offered options for Eco-friendly or sustainable clothing/brands. So why not simplify the task?

Problem

In the ever evolving fight against climate change, mindful consumers try to look for sustainable clothes in order to lower their carbon footprint. The issue arises that it's hard to find these products and its a hassle for consumers to have use multiple websites and apps to buy what they want. Conscious is the solution to that.

Ideation

I approached this product with the idea of offering the consumer a place where they can find a wide variety of clothes that are sustainable but also somewhere they can learn more about the current issue of climate change. Prioritizing the problem at hand of not being able to find what people are looking for, I looked at other e-commerce sites that made shopping easy for consumers and came across Farfetch. Farfetch offers consumers products from multiple stores across the world. So idea would be for consumers to use Conscious to do the same with sustainable brands and Eco-friendly clothing.

Information Architecture

Consumers would be able navigate the app and get to where they need to with this simplified approach. The Home page would offer a place to quickly view whatever is new and jump right into it. The Shop page would show all the current products available from the various retailers that carry sustainable clothing and brands. The Spotlight page would offer consumers a social media approach of shopping and viewing products with a "story" artifact that is curated to the consumer. The R&R page offers the user with many informative articles and projects that could help them be more mindful consumers.

Wireframe

This wireframe offers a look into how the hi-fidelity product would look like and is based on the previous information architecture flow chart. This simple wireframe helped in creating a product that allowed consumer's to get to what they are looking for by putting an emphasis on the products.

Final Design

The final design I present hopes to offer the consumer a product that they can utilize to simplify their shopping experience in finding sustainable clothing. The product accomplishes this issue by offering various eco-friendly products along with sustainable brands from multiple retailers across the globe. Mindful consumers can also explore ways on how to their part in fighting climate change with the way they buy products along with being able to stay informed on the latest products within the app.

Outcomes

The outcomes from this project were incredibly valuable to me. Considering this was my first project using Figma, this was a learning experience for me and helped me develop my skills with Figma. I also learned the importance of creating deliverables such as wireframes and information flow charts, as they help develop the shape of the product during the ideation process. I think that the many skills I learned during this project will continue to grow and develop and will be helpful in future projects.
