2020 Susan G Komen Race for the Cure Advertorial

During my time at Hagadone Media and Creative, I had the opportunity to design the spread for the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure section. As someone with a personal connection to breast cancer through my grandmother's survivorship, I was eager to create a piece that would honor her and other individuals affected by this disease. As a professional designer proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, I was able to create a visually stunning spread that not only showcased my technical abilities but also conveyed a powerful message.

Choosing an image of a woman proudly displaying her mastectomy scars, I aimed to make a bold statement that all individuals are worthy and that those who have faced cancer can still make a significant impact. Despite initial concerns about the graphic nature of the image, I pushed to keep it on the cover, knowing the importance of bringing visibility to these stories.

The response was overwhelming, with several individuals writing to the CDA Press to express their appreciation for the imagery used in the publication. As a designer, this moment holds significant meaning to me, not only because of its ties to my family's experience with breast cancer, but also because of its ability to support and empower others.

The layout displayed here is a rework of the original spread created in 2020. I updated my previous design so that it would be more visually engaging and dynamic; utilizing striking colors and bold typography to highlight the bold imagery. The cover art was not changed for this update.

As I had grown as an artist since 2020, I wanted to apply techniques that I have learned since then to create a layout that better captures the viewer's attention. The modern aesthetic and effective integration of Susan G Komen brand elements effectively communicate the message of the advertorial with greater impact and resonance.
