Holi-Festival of India

The popular Holi festival is also known as the ‘Festival of colours’. The first evening is known as Holika Dahan (burning of Demon Holika). Holi celebrates the end of winter. It is a celebration of the victory of good over evil. Days before Holi people start gathering wood, and dried tree branches. On top of the pyre is an effigy to signify Holika. Holi keeps burning for hours at night and people eat sweets and plan the next day, the festival of colours which traditionally starts with applying the ashes from the Holi. Holi starts on Poornima (full moon day) and is two-day festival. Day one is Chhoti Holi or Holika Dahan and the second day is Rangwali Holi.#holi #indianfestivals
