Day 14 UI Challenge - Countdown Timer

Hey 👋! Thank you for being here!

I am a junior UI/UX designer keen on learning and willing to grow what I have learned. Since I am a junior designer, I should do designs regularly to improve my skill set, I started doing this 100-Day UI Challenge to see how far I can improve in this short amount of time.

Today the challenge was making a Countdown Timer, so I made the screens of a Pomodoro Timer App.

For this design, I created the mood board above! To make this I researched some timer apps and even arrangements of other creators on Dribbble.

I wanted to portray a growing tomato garden to the app, and with this, in mind, I opted for using the normally seen and reconsigned tomato colors, reds, and greens.

For the low-fidelity prototypes, I started working on the different screens I wanted to create.

The first screen is where the user chooses the time to apply the timer.

  • In the top part of the screen, the user can find a message and the points they have gathered until the moment.

  • In the center of the screen, the user will be able to drag the minutes and seconds he needs for the timer.

  • In the bottom part is the call-to-action, that in this case is the start the timer button.

On the second and third screens, the user will see the time left in the timer.

  • This time will be shown by the border of the circle and the time itself written below it.

  • The screen also shows a stop button at the bottom.

The last screen it's a simple completion of the task.

  • The top part shows the user their points.

  • The center shows an illustration with a motivational message and the points gained.

  • At the bottom, the user will find the option to repeat the timer or to go back to the main menu.

For the high-fidelity mockup, I wanted to bring the tomato garden idea to life, but still count on the usability of each task.

One challenge in this stage was the usage of the decided colors, without looking too Christmas-y, I think I was able to convey the idea of the tomato after some trial and error.

Overall, the Countdown timer UI Challenge was an exciting opportunity for me to explore new design concepts and push my creativity to the next level.

From the initial inspiration of my mood board to the final high-fidelity mockup, I was able to refine my ideas and create a user interface that I'm truly proud of.

I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts and feedback on my design, so please don't hesitate to share your comments below.

Thank you for taking the time to check out my work!💕
