Mae Jemison
Dr. Mae Jemison became the first African American woman to go to space in 1992. Before NASA, she was in the Peace Corps. After NASA, she formed a company researching the application of technology to everyday life, and she acted on Star Trek. She holds nine honorary doctorates. She’s a dancer. And, she is, most obviously, quite bad ass.
“Many people do not see a connection between science and dance,” says Jemison. “but I consider them both to be expressions of the boundless creativity that people have to share with one another.”
