Brasserie du Nord (UI project 2022)

Brasserie du Nord (UI project)

Brasserie du Nord, a former Nyon brewery that has retained its old charm. Its Art Nouveau interior design makes it a rare jewel in Switzerland. This 18th-century house has been home to a restaurant since 1880.

The brief is UI design of Brasserie du Nord's website, while following closely their brand guideline, which consist of their logo, colors and typeface.

The scope is 3 working prototypes of desktop, tablet and mobile website.

The challenge here is to reproduce the ambiance of the restaurant: warm, inviting and generous. The restaurant has a distinctive decoration style Art Nouveau which will be the main concept of the design.

Projet steps:

  1. Competitor research: Looking through the websites of various restaurants in the area and of the same style. Determinate good and bad points to implement.

  2. Analyse restaurant's need: to promote its history, decoration and ambiance; to have their menus online; to show the opening hours and locations; to contact the restaurant.

  3. Analyse restaurant clients's need: to consulte the menus and prices; to reserve a table; to find practical information; to check out restaurant's photos and clients's reviews.

  4. Establish site's strategy: KPI, target clients, site plan and rustic tables promotion.

  5. Artistic direction: layout, typography, colors, graphic éléments.

  6. Low fidelity wireframes using Adobe XD

  7. High fidelity wireframe and prototypes using Adobe XD

Step 5: Picking graphic elements for Art Nouveau style. Artwork not by me.

This project is interesting because of the Art Nouveau style, which is a throwback to the past instead of the current minimalist or bold styles. I also got to experiment with a combined layout of tiles and blocks. Overall, this is a fulfilling and challenging project.
