Abandoned Coal Mine
Gathering Reference
My goal for this project was to create a creepy realistic style based upon the prompt "coal," that would be used in animation and games. I began by searching online for stylized and real-life mines and props on Pintrest, ArtStation, and Google images.
Modeling
I started with a basic concept of a small coal cart abandoned in a mineshaft. The coal cart was going to be fashioned on an early-to-mid-20th century style of mine carts. I then expanded the prop into a scene. I added a mineshaft with a dirt floor and fallen rocks. I then added various supplies that would be found in a mineshaft. Lastly, I added some lamps and used them to light the scene. The modeling was done exclusively in Blender 3D.
Materials
I wanted to keep the textures simple and realistic. I used some basic textures within Substance Painter and slowly layered various textures and generators onto the base textures to produce varied textures. The textures were produced using Substance Painter.
