New York Jaywalking
Objective:
The "Jaywalking in New York" project is a creative and humorous exploration of the unique cultural phenomenon of jaywalking in New York City. By using traditional traffic signs and symbols as characters, this project captures the essence of the city’s fast-paced lifestyle and the attitude of New Yorkers toward traffic rules, specifically jaywalking. The goal was to produce a series of animations and posters that reflect the everyday reality of NYC traffic, where jaywalking is not just common but an integral part of the city's identity.
Design Concept:
The concept revolves around transforming familiar traffic signs and symbols into playful characters that interact with a sidewalk. These characters humorously portray the difference between the official traffic rules and the way New Yorkers navigate the streets. The project creates a playful narrative that resonates with New Yorkers and visitors alike. The messaging is infused with a dry, witty New Yorker tone that reflects the city's unique attitude. Phrases like "Jaywalk like a New Yorker" or "I’m walking here accompany the visuals, adding a layer of humor that resonates with locals and those familiar with the city’s culture.
