Pathmate
Pathmate is a mentorship platform, where students will have the opportunity to connect with experienced professionals in thier field of interest. The introductory call session is a chance for students to discuss their goals, background, and any specific areas of development they would like to focus on with their mentor. This call will help match them with the most suitable mentor to help them achieve their career aspirations.
As a UX designer building this mentorship platform, my user research began with conducting interviews with both fresh graduates and experienced professionals. I also conducted surveys and online research to gather information about the current mentorship landscape and the specific challenges and needs of my target users.
Going into the research, I assumed that fresh graduates’ main challenges would be finding job opportunities and developing the necessary skills for their chosen careers. However, through my research, I found that a lack of guidance and support, as well as a lack of professional networking opportunities, were also significant challenges for this user group.
Additionally, my assumption that experienced professionals would be primarily interested in mentoring as a way to give back to their industry changed after conducting research, as I found that many experienced professionals were also looking for professional development opportunities and to expand their own professional network.
Based on this research, I was able to identify key features and design elements that would address the specific needs and challenges of my target users and make the mentorship platform more effective and user-friendly.
