A few Tips to Improve Readability

Readability is the ease with which text can be read and understood. How to achieve readability? Guideline: For Basic or Below Basic readers, texts should be written at a 6th grade level or lower. For the General Public, the average reader, texts should be written around an 8th grade level.

In terms of our layout, we want to break up our text. Placing huge amounts of text on a page may overwhelm people who read slowly, like those with dyslexia. So, we want to try to do things like use bullet points, add photos and/or illustrations, and definitely use our headings. Here's a bit of text on a mobile phone on how to drive a car. This looks like a wall of text which may be overwhelming to some people. How can we improve this text and make it readable? Here you can see that I've added some pictures. I've added some additional headings. I've used bullet points to break up the text. This will probably reduce the fatigue on the eyes as a person reads this text compared to the old version.
