Fethr

Fethr is a friend-founder/community app designed to help foreigners, like digital nomads, to create meaningful connections. The goal is to get to know the user through the onboarding process in order to make the algorithm work best and propose them new potential friends.

When they first developed the Beta version, the onboarding was about 10 pages and the drop-off of users was about 30%. The challenge was to develop a quick onboarding fast enough to change the experience and offer the best connections available.

At first, we used the gamification reward strategy, by offering our users more daily connections if they completed the onboarding questions.

The second tactic was to change the way we asked the questions by adding multiple selection answers to help the user think less and land on the homepage as fast as possible.

By talking to our focus group, mainly foreigners living in London for less than 6 months, we found they were all going to common places like libraries and specific stores to meet new people. So as a business strategy, Fethr talked to specific stores to create a community page; Our challenge was to create a couple of pages where we could offer our users to create/join a community based on their preferences.

After launching the communities, we received requests from different stores to create their own one and we noticed an increment in the time our users spend the time using the app, which before was discovering new people, to spend more time using the platform.
