Thoughts on Fan Art
I recently published an article on fan art, a practice I enjoy as a fan myself, but is generally held in low regard in some professional fields. As a main image for the article, I prepared this classic 6 Fan Art mosaic with some of my favourite fiction fighters:
1) Toki, my favourite Hokuto no Ken character and the one who truly deserved to be Ryuken’s successor / 2) The many times re-imagined Lady Shiva from DC. One of the few (human) characters that can beat Batman in hand-to-hand combat / 3) The always wise and perceptive Garnet from Steven Universe / 4) Mug, from Sam Bosma’s Fantasy Sports albums published by Nobrow. Still waiting for the conclusion / 5) Every teenager from the 90's first crush, Akane Tendo. Strong, brave and persevering. And unlike in many other comics, she wasn't scorned by her peers for being athletic, unaccommodating, or tomboyish, quite the opposite (well, except for Ranma).
The full image contains an additional character: Richard Aldana from Lastman, one of my favourite European comic books of the last decade.
