Climbing Dude - Connecting climbers together concept app

About Climbing dude

Climbing dude is a personal project.

It was born from a problem I faced when I arrived in a new city. I found that it was difficult to find people with who I could share my passion, climbing.

From this observation was born an idea : create a solution that bring together and connect climbers.

Researches

I created a Google Form that I shared on climbing forums and on Reddit.

I was able to collect 84 answers, giving me an idea of the climbers's social pain points and habits, and their motivations.

If I would do it again and with more time & money, I would interview climbers to have a more wide and deep vision of their way of practicing their sport and how they interact with the climbing world. I would then confirm my hypothesis made from the qualitative interview with a quantitative research.

User flows & wireframes

To help me structure, organize and go in the good directions I drew the main user flows of my app :

  • Find a climber

  • Explore the area

  • Join an event

  • Chat

  • Check a profile

After this, I designed low-fi wireframes :

Brand identity

The main objective was to bring out the positivity, the good mood and the relaxation, because climbing is above all a fun activity, an outdoor sport with a hedonistic character, and the people practicing it are looking for a positive experience.

I came up with the name Climbing Dude and these colors :

The final result

And here is the result of my design :

Conclusion

This was my first big project for designing an app, it allowed me to realize the amount of work that represents the creation of a mobile application, and all the difficulties that I can have while designing it.

I realized that the upstream work of user research, ideation and structuration is actually the most important part of the design, not to be neglected, and that one should not throw oneself headlong into the UI design, using in particular the process of user research, to really meet the users needs.

What are your thought on the project ? πŸ€”

Leave a comment and let me know, I'm hungry of feedbacks ! πŸ’πŸ’

Have a good one !
