The Quest for Christa T. book cover design

The Quest for Christa T. - a sort of 'My Brilliant Friend' of east Germany, its a story of the slow death of friendship and idealism.I was inspired by the incredible work of Ute Mahler - this photograph of GDR women at total repose really struck me as relevant to the book - but I had a problem. I really wanted a full cover photo for my vision, and his photo was landscape. So I did something that is personal first for me:I used AI to extend the photo and add another subject. I stretched the cavas upwards and asked for an oppressive fence with a warplane parked right behind it - I wanted to capture the military oppression and halcyon days this novel embodies and this tool helped me to achieve that. I decided to not include any color, letting the expressionist fonts and the faces of the women bring the energy to the composition. Could you tell this was an AI composite photo?
