Vintage Cactus Botanical Illustration Poster

I became fascinated by the art of botanical illustration and decided to create a series of posters highlighting these illustrations but with a vintage twist. Additionally, this series of posters allowed me to learn the depths of the image tracer tool inside of Adobe Illustrator. These old illustrations come from an old book, The Cactaceae : descriptions and illustrations of plants of the cactus family“, by N.L. Britton and J.N. Rose (1919).

I image traced them adding my own spin and cleaning up the illustration. The font is a vintage Art Deco font. The cut in thru the cactus illustration represents the dying nature of this art. In the late 18th cen & early 19th century there existed many botanical illustration artist, but with the advent of photography the artform declined. I added a nice vintage paper texture over the top of the whole composition to really bring things together.
