Impossible machines

Created during my time at Dessa, these big illustrations are each doing a task that seems relatively simple (brewing coffee, reading a book, etc.). But behind each task is a series of steps that we as humans don't always think about.

Similarly, in machine learning, AI models seem to be doing something simple when they colourize an image, deepfake a voice or create their own artwork. But there are a lot of steps that happen behind the scenes, such as training and data collection, that can take months or even years to complete.
