Strange things are happening in the town of Ostrovín. First the local castle disappears and then little Pavlina Karafiátová is kidnapped. Ancient magic plays a role in this, but also the simple envy and greed of a certain Chrudoš Kudrholc. There are two precious books in the world, the book of creation BYLUM and the book of destruction NEBYLUM. He who possesses both of them is endowed with incredible power. But it can also do a lot of damage. In a mad action chase for the books, one narrator after another takes turns unraveling a story that can literally be read in one breath.
