Car Onboarding with Figma

Introduction:

As a car seller, repairer, or cleaner, it's important to take high-quality pictures of your vehicles to showcase them effectively. That's why we developed a car photography app that helps users take professional-looking photos of their cars. However, we knew that onboarding users to the web app and teaching them the best practices for photographing a car would be critical to its success. In this case study, we'll describe the design process for the onboarding experience and how we used user research, design techniques, and testing to create a practical and engaging experience for our users.

Design Process:

To understand the needs and preferences of our target users, we conducted user research with car sellers, repairers, and cleaners. During these interviews, we learned that most users wanted pictures and videos with specific points in mind, such as making sure the car is clean and tidy, choosing a place with enough light, standing 2m back to get a full view of the car, rotating the picture to horizontal, and making sure the vehicle is inside the line guides.

Based on this research, we identified a list of points users should remember before taking pictures of a car. To help users learn and remember these points, we used design techniques such as storytelling and gamification to make the onboarding process more engaging and interactive. We also faced the challenge of explaining these points clearly and concisely, as we didn't want to overwhelm users with too much information. To address this, we created a simple and intuitive interface that guides users through the onboarding process step-by-step.

Testing and Feedback:

To ensure that our onboarding experience was practical and met the needs of our users, we conducted testing with a small group of users. We gathered feedback on the overall design and usability of the onboarding process and the effectiveness of the storytelling and gamification elements. Based on this feedback, we made several improvements to the design, such as adding more examples and visuals to help users better understand the points they should keep in mind.

Conclusion:

Overall, our user-centered design approach helped us create a compelling and engaging onboarding experience for our car photography app. By conducting user research, using design techniques such as storytelling and gamification, and testing with a small group of users, we created an experience that helps users take professional-looking photos of their cars.
