How to update GPS maps

The GPS maps are updated by a process called "geocoding." Geocoding is the process of assigning latitude and longitude coordinates to specific places.

This process is done by an organization called NAVTEQ. The organization updates the map data with new information from various sources such as aerial photography, field surveys, third-party data providers and customer feedback.
