Climate Change 101

I was tasked to create the design style and mobile app UI for a short course on climate change. The goal of the course is to upscale global climate literacy by providing general understanding about climate change to a large number of potential change agents.

Target Audience

The course would be of particular interest to the following individuals:

  • Environmental managers in the private and NGO sector

  • Students, teachers and academic staff

  • Anyone who wants to take climate action.

The Style

During the course participants create an action plan to tackle climate change suited to their particular situation. To inspire this action a dynamic design system was created. Arrows are used to create movement and flow as they overlap and interact with the content.

The style draws from the story of each modules content:

Module 1: The science: Sunlight/solar radiation bouncing off the earths surface.

Module 2: Cause & effect: Circle and arrows influencing each other.

Module 3: Mitigation: The square represents the problem that the arrow avoids.

Module 4: Adaptation: The hexagon morphs into a circle.

Motion reel

The motion design contributed to the dynamic feel of a course intended to inspire action.
