UI, UX, and frontend for SmartThings Developer Portal

I am happy to show you my participation in the new portal for SmartThings Developers. Brand strategy, visual identity, and user feedback were applied to create the site. I have worked together with the SmartThings DevRel and marketing team and we're more than happy to share the results of that collaboration.

The client

Samsung is the company behind SmartThings - a home automation company that helps build a smart home to uplift everyday living and meaningful moments.

SmartThings creates meaningful experiences that are effortlessly integrated across any phone, any device, and any brand.

The challenge

With a 2M developer community, it was time for SmartThings to evolve and adapt. With so much attention on their developer program, the team had never before had the chance to apply the same care to their portal and website’s user experience.

The project’s main goal was to create a strong but basic identity and journey without losing touch with the existing community and build a comprehensive experience for the millions of developers who visit the portal daily.

The solution

To offer more depth and context to the developer community, we redefined a brand strategy that references the developer mindset across all marketing materials targeted to developers, including illustrations, badges, and other UI graphical elements.

I conducted a holistic UX research process that informed gaps in developer messaging and services which helped us identify opportunities and create insights on structuring the new portal.

A completely new portal was created to successfully expands upon what the SmartThings DevRel team built for the past years and maintain the connection with its ever-growing developer community.

The result

A clean and modern developer portal, easy to navigate, consistent, and productive for the end-user. The developer journey improved by decreasing the number of clicks to access a specific section; thus, more time spend on the actual desirable page.
