Today we'd like to present a procurement & inventory management software for the construction industry that we designed and developed recently.

Our client needed to build a system that accomplished all of the following:
cost reduction
simplified procurement process
better visibility across each user in the ecosystem
better vendor management
improved overall communication
asset tracking
We consider inclusive design to be essential in today's world. The system was built following accessibility guidelines. During the research phase, we found that the current construction industry has over 808,891 construction workers employed in the United States and 87.8% of them are men. Statistically, about 8% of all men and about 0.5% of all females suffer from color vision deficiency.
Since the majority of construction workers are men, the assumption was that a large percentage of our users may have a color vision deficiency.
We explored the impact this might have on our product design, by ensuring we defined “safe” colors and strong color contrast. This also included using meaningful symbols for users to differentiate system messages without having to identify them by color.
Once the initial designs were complete, we tested them with 5 target users (1 participant had color blindness). We test the following behaviors:
Do users respond to the colors correctly?
Do users clearly interpret the meaning of the icons and clearly labeled CTAs?
Usability testing confirmed our assumptions, and we proceeded with the design. To know more read the article.
