Maison Margiela Newspaper Mock-Up

Art direction and typography for Maison Margiela bi-annual publication concept.

Taking form as a newspaper, this Maison Margiela mailable promotional publication is designed to be as elusive and unassuming as Martin Margiela himself. Dubbed "Fashion's Invisible Man" by The New York Times in 2008, Margiela's namesake label is an anomaly in an industry fraught with prestige, pretention, and social climbing. Anonymity is a long-standing pillar of the Margiela label. Identifiable only through subtle stitched lines and an enigmatic coding system, Margiela's work is inconspicuous to all but those who know what to look for.

Is there anything more discreet than a common newspaper? Utilizing Maison Margiela's existing coding system, I assigned the publication unclaimed number 24 and branded it to mirror Margiela's current style standards. Typography selection embodies the feeling of Maison Martin Margiela's original wordmark while introducing a new set of typefaces that could be seamlessly added to the brand's current type library.

Type set development.
