Hotel Conversation User Interface (CUI)

This CUI was designed as part of the 14 days daily conversation design challenge organized by Ryan, Hillary, & the UXWC team.

Day 5: Contextual Error Message

The goal of this challenge is to get a valid 5-digit zip code from the user so that the bot can recommend some places. The user does not input the expected values. What would the bot say to help the user understand?

Thought process:

In the original prompt, it is important to be specific about the kind of input we're expecting from the user. While the user provides an invalid input, we should never blame the user. Instead, we initiate a reprompt prefaced by a light apology to suggest a lack of understanding or interpretation. This is followed by the actual reprompt, a succinct repetition of the original question that guides the user to provide the expected input.
