Minimal Progress Bars

In our application we are exploring minimal progress bars that aid user comprehension and reduce complexity; in an attempt to increase our conversion rate. My hypotheses is that for a progress bar that exceeds 4-5 steps we would replace it with a linear percentage progress bar. This would continue to give the user an estimate of time while removing what could be a discouraging amount of tasks. Your feedback is welcome, thanks for looking.
