This design was created in procreate for a competition through Blundstone and was selected as a finalist. I wanted to take the timeless silhouette of a work boot and bring in some modernity to encapsulate Blundstone's time and journey as a company. I also thought about exploration, whether in nature or within one's self, and expanding one's own boundaries while ensuring that the earth is protected and we are conscious of our impact. This resulted in a deconstructed form with bright colors and Australian flowers (protea flowers, specifically) and eucalyptus-inspired leaves inside and around the boots. To me, this symbolizes that what we create is directly possible because of the world around us, our innate desire to grow and explore, our human responsibility to continue cultivating a symbiotic relationship with nature and ultimately ourselves, ~and~ the importance of treading lightly and protecting what is here so that it may remain for many more years.
