The Sword

For the love of video games 🎮

I'm a gamer and play a lot of games (specially hack & slash genre), I was playing the Darksiders Genesis recently when I thought: hey why haven't I created a sword or hammer yet? let's do it!

I began by creating a mood board of different swords that I liked and mixed different parts of each one together then I added my own style and ideas to it and after the sword was finished I added the shield to compliment the sword and also make the scene more detailed and interesting. as for the wings I was kinda inspired by the Persian Faravahar symbol.

Playing with Lights & Motion

After the model and it's shading work was done, I thought it would be cool too give it an small animation. For this I had 2 different approaches:

The first approach (which you can see on top of the page👆) was to animate the sword itself, it's a simple upward move with a slow pause in the middle, yet it became interesting when I combined it with retracting of the wings on the shield.

The other was to play with lights and emission to showcase a dark version that lights up with the help of gems in the scene & a little backlight, you can see the result of this approach here👇
