Design study: Digital birdwatching binocular - Digiscope 6-42x70

In the course of evolution, humans have developed an impressive perceptual system. We receive most of the information about our surroundings through our eyes. However, our visual ability is limited by natural anatomical conditions.

Thanks to advanced developments in optics, these limits can be exceeded. Driven by our curiosity to discover, to observe and to understand, these developments enhance our experiences.

In the field of long-range optics, the predominant type of device for observing is still an analogue system, but modern digitization is gradually on its way, opening up extensive new possibilities.

We carried out the design study with the objective of intensively analysing the topic and, based on the insights, developing an innovative product design. The result is the “Digiscope“ – a long-range optics device specifically for nature observation.

The versatile hybrid binocular combines the advantages of analogue and digital technologies and unites the properties of binoculars, spotting scopes and cameras in one product. This creates a flexible, compact device for simultaneous experiencing, capturing and sharing, equipped with image identification, night vision and magnifications from low to high.

In addition, the interface to the digital information and communication world via smartphone connection offers the user an enhanced observation experience with a wide range of applications including data sharing, object identification and remote control.

The study outcome is therefore an impressive vision of spotting optics for the advanced and professional birder.
