French Fold in Book Design

The French Fold in bookmaking is a simple technique that gives interesting outcomes with potentially surprising outcomes. Instead of trimming the edge of a signature, one sheet is folded into quarters, bound into the book, and then left with folded edges.

In most books, those folds are trimmed, but the French Fold keeps the folds. For this publication, I used the bound dead space as the place to hide the images.

There weren't many images, and they were more than inconsistent in size, quality, and time taken—so the french fold made perfect sense for including but not featuring the images.
