Background

Relay Global has been operating since 1976 sourcing paints and coatings globally which they warehouse and distribute globally. They pass the ‘baton’ from manufacturer to reseller.

They have developed a revolutionary new paint primer, for the trade market, through advanced research with a top UK laboratory. The new primer will deal with problem surfaces: Tannin bleed, flash rusting, smoke & fire damage, metals and wood for indoor and outdoor environments.

The Brief

•  Name generation & brand creation for the new company

•  A brand which can be Trademarked

•  The brand must stand out from the crowd, advanced scientific primer

•  Strapline to accompany new name

The Solution

Stage 1 of the project involved developing and thoroughly researching possible names for the company. A short-list of 12 names were selected for presentation, which were both available to trademark and register as domain names.

The names ‘OPAYKE’ and ‘OPTIPRIMER’ were short-listed for development. Stage 2 involved the design of a number of visual identities for the 2 name choices, pictured below.

At this point the client had a re-think about the names before deciding on a new proposed name ‘ECLYPSE COATINGS’, featuring the misspelling letter ‘Y’ so as to gain trademark and domain registration.
