Movie Snacks!

Movie Snacks is a snack ordering app for movie theaters. It allows people to place orders ahead and avoid wasting time in line and users can order from in-seat so if they want more snacks during the movie they don't have to go outside to the concessionary.

Movie Snacks is designed to help busy workers and parents with young children place orders without investing time in line or having to get early to the movie theater to order.

Summary of the User Research

I conducted primary research for this project. Recruited users that fit the criteria of possible end users, crafted interview questions and performed the interviews. Found commonalities across the user group and identified two (2) end user groups.

In the first steps of my research I thought the major problem of the users would be the lack of time for ordering but the more I studied the user groups I realized there were more challenges like the need of assistive technology like screen readers and a clear and simple navigation to perform quickly the intended task.

The problem

After conducting the user research through interviews there were found four (4) insights.

1. Busy people with tight schedules and parents face common pain points when it comes to ordering snacks at the movie theater

2. The ordering process takes too much time, ordering snacks means managing their time to get early to the movies and wait in line.

3. They feel rushed by others waiting in line when it's their turn to order and feel anxious because the movie is about to start.

4. If they want more snacks during the movie they'd normally wont leave the room so they don't miss the movie.

The pain-points and how to solve them

Slow ordering process: The goal is to solve this pain point offering a better and easier way to order snacks without investing too much time in the process. Ordering should be a clear, simple task to complete.

Bloated information: The physical menu is bloated on information which makes it hard for people with assistive needs, busy parents or busy people to choose an option. A simple solution would be to design the menu minimal on information and more graphical.

Ordering more snacks is stressful: If the user wants more snacks during the movie, the idea is for them to be able to order without going back to the counter and receive the order right at the spot.

The goal

Design an app for Movie Snacks that allows users to easily order from inside the movie room or place an order ahead and pick it up.
