Bacon Ad

Makin' Bacon

This was a fun idea I've been wanting to do for a while. When I started using blender more I wanted to make an ad with a ton of some food fall from the sky as a short animation. When our company got a big shipment of bacon back in stock I figured this would be a great opportunity.

The process started with, BACON! I first took a few reference photos from the basic angles in my "studio" (If I could make those air quotes bigger I would). But then I thought I'd try something fancy, I had a 3d modeler app on my phone so I gave that a shot, and the results were good! But not usable.

This model came out better than I expected, the image map fit perfectly and it had all the ridges and deformations of the bacon package exactly like I wanted. However there were a ton of points creating hundreds of faces on this model. Cleaning it up and making it usable with physics was rough, the model constantly fell through geometry. I opted to start over with a simpler, smaller, cleaner object.

this new object was much easier to work with and actually acted as intended when physics were applied.

The last step was to duplicate the original object with an array modifier, then use random position adjustments on the whole group to randomize and nudge them around.

With all hard work done all that was left was to record the animation and add all the sound effects and text in post. I will say to everyone give sound design a go. punching my floor to make the bacon thudding was pretty fun.
