On 15th August of every year, the day is celebrated with mourning. The black flag is hoisted as well as the national flag is kept at half-mast. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, father of the nation of Bangladesh and the architect of Bangladesh, and independence, was killed with his family on August 15, 1975.
