To "live pono" is to live with balance
This weekend, we get to celebrate three years of Pono with a team of the most talented creatives in the biz. In honor of our anniversary, we want to share a little more about the meaning behind Pono and give you an idea of why we took the leap and jumped on this wild ride.
Three years ago, we were just two designers with a dream. We worked at advertising agencies big and small, startups that grew up, and large enterprise corporations. We love creating, but something was missing. We wanted to do it on our terms, in a way that aligned with our values.
There’s this concept in Hawaii known as “living pono.” We each have family who came to Hawaii from Japan, and learned about life on the island from the stories they told, the foods we ate, and the languages that were spoken.
Pono generally translates to “righteousness.” But it’s more than a word—it’s a way of life. To “live pono” is to live with balance and to consciously and morally do right by yourself, by others, and by the world.
To us, “living pono” means working with honesty and integrity. It means surrounding ourselves with a talented team of creatives and treating them with respect by valuing their time and skill. And it means giving back to the causes and organizations we care about with free design services to help their message reach as many people as possible.
Thanks for being with us—as a client, a team member, or a supporter, you’ve all helped us with our dream to create positivity and “live pono.”
