OCBC 2023: Final
Artwork for an annual Bible Conference in Ocean City, NJ.
The topic was missional/evangelistic in nature, so we explored the concept of expanding circles to represent increasing spheres of reach. Paired this with the less abstract silhouette of seeds and single breakaway seed to convey "reaching further."
Early designs involved water marbling and watercolor paint to achieve the expanding circles, but these approaches didn't really capture the tone (and would have been difficult to animate, which was one of our goals this year).
Once we had settled on the concentric dandelion circles, I created an animation in AE that could be displayed on screen as a teaser at the conclusion of this year's conference.

First take. My daughter created some beautiful marbling prints that I digitized and recolored. The vibe here was too much like "energy drink" and not enough Bible conference.
Second pass. Combined layered watercolor with the concentric circles concept. The result was too busy and ended up looking like the cover of a sci-fi novel or some generic medication.
This was one more loose concept created after what was to be the final artwork. I leaned more into the seed concept and made the overall aesthetic a bit more subtle.
