Sweetland Poster Series

Project Description:

The goal of this project was to design a poster series inspired by the story "Sweetland" by Michael Crummey, the 2019 MacEwan Book of The Year.

Solution:

Sweetland by Micheal Crummey tells a haunting tale about isolation, the confusion between the natural and supernatural, and a fear of mortality. Through a reflection of quotes from throughout the book, this poster series encapsulates these ideas. The typeface of Bodoni presents a formal and professional feel that leaves a haunting theme as one reads through the quotes. These quotes are taken from the beginning, middle, and end of the book, though they have an odd mirroring and foreshadowing effect when put together within a series. The geometric triangle pattern within the background adds texture and dimension to the posters, as well as symbolizes the fracturing and fragmenting of Sweetland’s mind as we journey through the story. The photo of the trees and fog continue to add texture to this background and add context to these posters that unit them. The colours change between each poster to hint at the moodiness between each scene and quote.
