Redesign RentCafé Resident App

Overview

Residents are looking for immediate updates when it comes to their apartment home. The redesign of the RentCafé Resident app offers a more attractive, user-friendly interface that is responsive. No more waiting for the office staff to return your call, with reminder notifications and an AI chat residents can stay up-to-date on everything related to their apartment home.

I am the lead designer for this project. My experience in Real Estate assisted me with research and concept ideation.

THE PROBLEM

Residents have the ability to submit a work order through their Resident app 24/7. No updates are sent, only an automatic email after completion. Historically, a resident has to contact the office directly to find out the status of their work order.

“Has maintenance come by yet? What is going on with my work order?”

BUSINESS PROLEM

Failure to update residents can lead to confusion and duplicate work orders

USER GOAL:

Responsive updates on their apartment

BUSINESS GOAL:

Offer innovative technology to increase resident engagement and retention

Removed the rent from the Homepage and replaced with a photo of the apartment so the residents can feel that they are part of the community. Originally created concepts for an in-app messenger between the resident and the office staff. Moved away from this and instead added an AI chat.

PAYMENTS DASHBOARD

Inspired by a wallet and banking style app, I played with different variations of the payment account cards. Residents can click on each payment account to use and/or add an account. Decided against a Make Payment Button as I did not want it to block the Payment History and to avoid accidental clicks, opted for adding the AI chat.

MAINTENANCE DASHBOARD

Utilized a clean list with each work order categorized by status:

In Progress will have an orange dot next to it to show as active and the resident will receive a notification that the work has started.

On Hold refers to either waiting for a part or for a vendor.

Completed work will have a notes option to let the resident know what was completed.

LOCAL DEALS

One of the many benefits of living at an apartment community is the local perks. Resident can find a list of what perks are offered, and can search/filter by category.

Most frequent perks can be favorited which will pin them to the top of the list.

WIREFRAME FLOW

RESULTS

With the usability and attractive features of the redesign, we expect a jump in app ratings, and positive feedback from users.

Beyond a boost in positive sentiment, Success would be measured by an increase in number of new users and repeat of app features.

Feedback is always appreciated.
