I was never a big fan of using watermarks on my own art. I usually upload small size, low-res images to protect my work.
Few weeks ago, I was trying to show this chameleon animation to a friend, once I started searching on internet I found it all over the places. :/ That was a bitter sweet moment. I was happy that I was able to inspire others with my art - with what I do for living. Also found out that people who used it, never asked for permission from me, never given credits to the original art.
They even told me that they created it with code, it is their work.. They did not create a frog, or a snail. They did not even change its colors, or added more legs either.. : ) They used him as it is!
I started reporting those profiles who used my art. Websites like Youtube, Instagram, Pinterest took it down pretty quick. From now on, hopefully I will only see him at home.
Today, I made him a silly copyright collar, so it is known that he has a home. :)
By the way, back in 2014, I watched a cartoon human walk tutorial on Skillshare that I paid for and created my own (this) chameleon from scratch, I did not use people's artwork without giving credits, or asking permission to use it. After all the hardwork to create one thing with joy, then seeing it stolen is hurtful. This happens all the time to the creatives. We create with emotions, please respect and send a message to the artist and ask permission before using it, and please credit the artist. Thanks for reading.
